Immersive Storytelling

According to Forbes, ā€œImmersive storytelling can be defined as a technique that uses the latest technologies to create a compelling sense of presence. It gives the audience the feeling of being there.ā€

While I was the lead designer of the Adweek Branded content studio I worked on countless immersive stories that helped our clients reach targeted segments of our audience through a mix of insightful narratives, eye-catching images and engaging experiences.

From initial concept pitchs to the promotional materials created once stories were published, I was involved in every step of the process with our internal team and the client.

My favorite part of working on these stories was getting to work with and commission illustrations from artists all over the world.

Process


C O N C E P T P I T C H

The first step in our process was to create a concept pitch that we shared with the client. 

There were always between 2-4 concepts that our edit team + the writer would create. Each concept was accompanied by a mood board comprised of a handful of images that gave the client an idea of what the story would look like in terms of types of imagery, illustrative style, color palette, etc. Our edit team wrote the description for each story concept and then Iā€™d write a short description explaining our proposed art direction.

W I R E F R A M E

The second step in our process was to create a wireframe of the story. In the wireframe we used Lorem Ipsum to show where the copy would live and simple shapes to signify where the art/graphics in the section would live.

To the right of the layout there was a column where I would provide specific art direction for the client to sign off on. Once we obtained approval from the client on the proposed art direction I would meet with prospective illustrators and hire one who aligned with us on budget, timing and interest.
